How does it work?
The sunless spray solution consists of DHA, (dihydroxyacetone), a sugarcane derivative and a cosmetic bronzer that gives you an instant tan. DHA has been FDA approved for over 30 years and is considered safe. The DHA reacts with the amino acids in the outer layers (epidermis) of your skin. The reaction develops a beautiful, golden tan and will look natural and fade naturally as if it came from the sun.
Is Spray Tanning Safe?
Yes! DHA has been approved for cosmetic use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), DHA based Sunless tanning has been recommended by the Skin Cancer Organization, American Academy of Dermatology, Canadian Dermatology Association, The American Cancer Society and the American Medical Association.

Top 5 Sunless Spray Tan Killers
1. The Shower… The longer you leave a sunless spray tan on the skin the better. I recommend waiting at least 12 hours or until the next morning.
Never less than 8 hours for best results.
2. Exfoliates… These are only to be used when prepping for a spray tan, not while you have one unless you are trying to get rid of it.
3. Chlorinated Pools… the chlorine will eat your tan away.
4. Avoid Activities that will make you sweat until after your post-spray tan initial shower.
5. Bad Preparation… this is the true Achilles Heel to sunless spray tanning. Ignore this spray tan killer and you will literally be throwing your money away.
Tanning Product Information
Common Sunless Skin Terminology
The stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the epidermis,is the layer that is affected by most sunless-tanning products.
Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a colorless sugar interacts with the amino acids within the skin cells producing a color change that typically lasts 5-7 days.
How Do Sunless Tanners Work?
I believe in building and marketing products around Truth, Fact, and Science based results. Products create the results claimed on their labels without exaggeration.
To ensure DHA efficacy, raw materials are flown into a manufacturing facility located just outside Nashville, Tennessee. Each container is tested in laboratory on site to certify it performs at peak levels, and meets stringent performance guidelines.”
Often described as a “brick and mortar” type structure the Stratum
Corneum is the outermost layer of woven connective tissue which
makes up the skin. Within this skin layer collagen, keratin and elastin
work together to create a protective barrier for the layers below.
Cellular skin layer made up of the Stratum Corneum, along with
new skin layer waiting for the natural skin exfoliation process to
expose these fresh new skin cells.
The measure of the acidity or basicity of the skin. High pH can
cause the dreaded “orange” effect in sunless tanning.
The common term for Dihydroxyacetone, is DHA which is the active
ingredient within all Norvell Sunless formulations and responsible
for creating a color change within the Stratum Corneum. DHA
is a simple carbohydrate often derived from plant sources such
as sugar cane and sugar beets. All Norvell DHA carries the
prestigious Eco-Cert Certification Seal.
Below the penetration levels of DHA, the Dermis houses sebaceous
glands, hair follicles, and sweat glands. Sebaceous glands are
responsible for creating sebum, the natural oils within the body.
